EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-PARAMEDIC
The Paramedic course follows the 1999 U.S. Department of Transportation/National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration National Standard Curriculum
and consists of 1,100 hours of classroom instruction and competency-based hospital clinical instruction and field
internship. During Paramedic training, students will receive
provider level courses in ITLS, ACLS and PEPP. The certifying
examination at the conclusion of the program is the National
Registry Paramedic exam.
Entrance Requirements:

Must maintain at minimum a South Carolina
or National Registry EMT certification throughout the course.

Achieve the minimum score on the Health
Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET).
Successfully complete the LREMSC Anatomy & Physiology course. Students who have successfully completed Anatomy & Physiology courses taught by a technical school, college or university within the past five (5) years may be allowed an exemption from the LREMSC Anatomy & Physiology course. Contact the LREMSC Education Director if you believe you qualify for an exemption to have the courses you have successfully completed evaluated. An official school transcript is required to perform an exemption evaluation. Please assure that you allow ample time for the acquisition of an official transcript and the exemption evaluation process
Must be covered by employers' Worker's Compensation
or have major medical health insurance that remains in effect
throughout Paramedic training.

The clinical contract requires that all
individuals having contact with patients (including students
performing clinical rotations) undergo a national criminal
background check. Each student is required to submit a photocopy
of their driver’s license to the Council Staff for completion
of the criminal background check. If you are considering
paramedic training and have an arrest record, you must contact Brett Huntley, Education Director as soon as possible to determine whether you are eligible
for participation in the paramedic course.
- The hospital and field clinical contracts require that our
office have on file for each student participating in the
clinical process a current health statement verifying that
the student has tested negative for tuberculosis within three
(3) months prior to the beginning of clinicals and verifying immunization
against Rubella, Rubeola, Varicella, Tetanus and Hepatitis
B. The contracts also require a drug screen immediately prior
to the start of clinical rotations.

The Lowcountry Regional EMS Council is approved
by the South Carolina State Approving Agency to receive Veterans
Administration benefits for paramedic training. Please contact
the Council office for information about utilizing your VA benefits
for paramedic tuition. Federal law requires additional specific
policies regarding recipients of Veterans Administration Education
Benefits. These policies may be found here.
Class
size limited to the first 24 qualified, paid registrations.
A fully executed payment plan agreement is acceptable to qualify
the applicant as paid.
All
initial students must complete an Enrollment Agreement in person
at the Council office in order to enroll in a LCREMSC program.
Students must make an appointment to complete the Enrollment
Agreement by calling Lisa Wood at (843) 529-0977.
The Enrollment Agreement may be completed on the day that the
student takes the HOBET exam provided the student makes those
arrangements in advance.

Note: The course dates above are for the didactic portion of
the Paramedic Program. Completion of the clinical component
may take an additional 30 to 60 days or longer depending on
student availability, motivation and other factors.
