EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-INTERMEDIATE
The eighty hour EMT-Intermediate program is the first certification level above EMT-Basic. This program prepares the candidate to provide more aggressive care to victims of trauma and airway compromise as well as providing the student with more in-depth patient assessment skills. Skills taught in this program include nasal intubation and IV therapy.

Entrance Requirements:

  • Must maintain a South Carolina or National Registry EMT certification throughout the course.

  • Achieve the minimum score on the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET). Refresher candidates are not required to take the HOBET exam.

In order to participate in the clinical portion of the Intermediate Program, which is required for all initial Intermediate candidates, the following is required:

  • Each student must be covered by employer's Worker's Compensation or have major medical health insurance that remains in effect throughout intermediate training.
  • The clinical contracts require that our office have on file for each student participating in the clinical process a current health statement verifying that the student has tested negative for tuberculosis within twelve (12) months of the beginning of the class and verifying immunization against Rubella, Rubeola, Varicella and Hepatitis B. The Health Statement form and detailed instructions will be provided at the first class meeting.

All initial students must complete an Enrollment Agreement in person at the Council office in order to enroll in the EMT-Basic program. Students must make an appointment to complete the Enrollment Agreement by calling Lisa Wood or Andi Bow at (843) 529-0977. The Enrollment Agreement may be completed on the day that the student takes the HOBET exam provided the student makes those arrangements in advance.
