HOBET
Testing
Successful
completion of the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET)
is a prerequisite for admission into EMT-intermediate or paramedic
training in South Carolina. The HOBET measures an individual's
ability in mathematics and science reading comprehension. A minimum
NET Composite Percentage score of 42% AND a minimum Composite
Reading score of 42% are required for admission into an intermediate
or paramedic class.
HOBET
exams are scheduled individually by appointment during regular
business hours at the Lowcountry Regional EMS Council and the
cost is $35.00. The test is administered on computer and normally
takes 1½ to 2 hours to complete. A maximum of 2½
hours is allowed to complete the HOBET. The results will be available
immediately upon completion of the exam. The HOBET may also be
taken on paper, however it must be mailed to Educational Resources
for scoring and the results will be received in 2-4 weeks. Contact
Lisa Wood to schedule
your HOBET exam. Those needing accommodation on the HOBET under
the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact Paul
Lucas to learn how to file their request.
The
purpose of the HOBET is to identify any problem areas before training
begins so that students can obtain remediation and have a much
greater chance of success in their efforts. It is important that
anyone considering enrollment in an intermediate or paramedic
course take the HOBET as soon as possible so that any problem
areas identified can be addressed in time to qualify for admission.
More information on the HOBET is available at www.eriworld.com/hobet.htm.
