EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-BASIC
The 144 hour EMT-Basic program is the first pre-hospital emergency medical technician certification in South Carolina. This program prepares the candidate to provide basic emergency medical care to victims of trauma and illness. This course follows and exceeds the 1994 US Department of Transportation (DOT) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum. The course includes:

  • 110 Hours - DOT/NHTSA EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum
  • 12 Hours - Advanced Airway Module
  • 8 Hours - CPR Course
  • 13 Hours - SC Enrichment Modules
  • Infection Control
  • Hazardous Materials
  • Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garments
  • IV Maintenance
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction

Entrance Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last class

  • Be physically fit and able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT-Basic (refer to Appendix A: Americans with Disabilities Act, Attachment 1: Functional Position Description, for description of all essential duties of an EMT)
