The Lowcountry Regional EMS Council is an authorized Community Training Center of the American Heart Association. With over 400 registered instructors, we train well over 10,000 people annually in all disciplines of emergency care.

While only a few programs are listed here, any AHA course can be scheduled for as few as six people or individuals can register for regularly scheduled BLS Healthcare Provider or BLS Instructor classes held at our office. For more information please e-mail Lisa Wood or call our office.

AHA BLS HEALTHCARE PROVIDER
The 8 hour American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide heath care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. For certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.

AHA BLS INSTRUCTOR
The American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor Course is designed to provide instructor candidates the knowledge and skills necessary to teach basic life support providers. The course provides instructor candidates the opportunity to develop and refine their presentation and teaching skills and includes the following topics:

  • AHA ECC educational philosophy
  • National AHA policies and procedures that affect ECC instructors
  • Sufficient background information so instructors will comprehend BLS subject matter and be able to answer questions posed by participants in courses
  • Essential teaching methods
  • An overview of educational aids available to the instructor for teaching provider courses

AHA HEARTSAVER FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR
The Heartsaver First Aid Course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The course also provides corporations with a complete health and safety training solution for First Aid, CPR, and AED. The Heartsaver First Aid Course has been developed using the same evidence-based process as all American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care courses.

To be admitted to the Heartsaver First Aid Instructor Course, you must be an AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor and qualify as one of the following:

  • Health Care Professional (EMS, RN, LPN, MD, DO, DDS)
  • Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Heartsaver FACTS Instructor or ARC First Aid Instructor
  • Have completed the HS First Aid Provider Course, including the
    Environmental module.

AHA HEARTSAVER CPR
The American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR course runs between four-hours and six and one-half hours depending on the needs of the audience and is designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) to all lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace. Participants include security guards, firefighters, police, and other lay rescuers.

AHA HEARTSAVER AED
The American Heart Association Heartsaver AED course runs between four-hours and six and one-half hours depending on the needs of the audience and is designed to teach CPR, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) to all lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace. Participants include security guards, firefighters, police, commercial airline crews, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, and other lay responders who have access to an AED.
